Rapid Mixer Granulator (RMG)

Rapid Mixer Granulator

What Is Rapid Mixer Granulator?

A Rapid Mixer Granulator (RMG), also referred to as a high-shear mixer granulator, is a pharmaceutical processing machine that performs both dry powder blending and wet granulation within a single enclosed vessel in a single, continuous process cycle. It is one of the most widely used pieces of equipment in oral solid dosage manufacturing, forming the foundation of the wet granulation process for the production of tablets and capsules.

In operation, dry ingredients are first blended by the rotating impeller within the bowl. A granulating liquid, typically water, an aqueous binder solution, or a solvent, is then added through a spray nozzle, and the combined action of the impeller and high-speed chopper breaks down and redistributes the wetted mass to form uniform, dense granules of controlled size. The result is a wet granule mass with consistent particle size distribution, high bulk density, and good compressibility, all critical attributes for downstream drying, milling, and tablet compression.

The F Plus Mixer is a high-shear RMG engineered for precise process control, reproducible granule quality, and cGMP-compliant operation across development and commercial production scales.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions before you begin?

Start with the essentials, then speak with our team about your formulation, capacity and facility requirements.

A high shear mixer granulator blends dry ingredients and adds binder solution under controlled impeller and chopper action to produce dense, uniform wet granules.

It performs dry blending and wet massing in the same enclosed bowl, helping shorten processing time and reduce material transfer before drying and milling.

Granule size is influenced by impeller and chopper speed, binder quantity and addition rate, mixing time, fill level, formulation properties, and wet-mass end point.

Yes. The equipment can be offered in development, pilot, and commercial capacities. The working-volume range should match the formulation and planned scale-up strategy.

Depending on the application, configurations may include contained charging and discharge, easy-access product-contact parts, wash-in-place or CIP-compatible features, and suitable exhaust or isolator interfaces.
